In the early 1900s, tenacious silver miners placed the name Solitude on the geographic area now dominated by Solitude Mountain Resort. The ski area opened in the fall of 1957 with two chairlifts providing access to most of the area now skied on the front of the mountain. The development over time was designed to keep the serene mountain ambiance that surrounds the resort. What used to be a local ski area has become a family friendly village boasting spectacular scenery and an abundance of activities.
